Create an Attic Truss
Step 1 - Create and Insert a Component
Refer to Insert Profile Components for detailed instructions on creating and inserting a Profile Component.
Create Component
and define the Basic Shape including heel height and truss geometry.


Click NEXT

Review and adjust Structural Details.

Click INSERT
.
Step 2 - Prepare Truss for Attic Space
Delete Webs
Select multiple webs simultaneously by pressing Ctrl
and use a selection window to select all webs.
Press Delete
.
Change Bottom Chord
Select B2 and press Delete
which results in B1 extending to end of truss.
Select B1 and from the Properties Subpanel, change board size from 2x4 to 2x10.
Trim End Verticals
Select EV1 and trim to B1 by holding Shift
. Select the top edge of B1.
Repeat with EV2.

Step 3 - Add Members to Define Attic Space
Define attic space.
Using Add Member
, select the left heel as reference and place the web member creating the left side of the attic space. Change the location to Left Of Line
.
Repeat this process for the right side wall of the attic space, and change the location to Right Of Line
.

Use Add Member
and input the ceiling member at the intersection of the vertical webs and the top chords.

Add and Save Vertical Dimension

Step 4 - Add Web Members
Using Add Member
, select the left heel as reference and place the web member centered at 12'.
Repeat this process for the vertical webs at the left and right pitch breaks. Specify the location to Left Of Line
and Right Of Line
, respectively.
Use Add Member
and input the webs at the End Vertical / Top Chord joint to the bottom of the attic space.

Step 5 - Define Attic Space Loading
Click Truss Settings
and select Load Settings
.

Check Attic Room
and adjust the loading accordingly.

Tip
Use decimal feet for Room Width
and Room Height
.
Click CHANGE SETTINGS FOR THIS COMPONENT
.

Step 7 - Analyze Attic Truss and Review Applied Loads
Click Analyze
(Ctrl + A).

Click Analysis and History
, select a passing load case, and enable visibility for LOADS
.
